The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has released the Junior Engineer Examination 2026 notice for recruitment to Junior Engineer posts in Government of India organizations/offices. The examination also covers notified Scientific Assistant posts in the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

SSC JE Eligibility Criteria 2026

Qualification is post-specific. For many JE posts, candidates need a recognized Degree or three-year Diploma in the relevant engineering discipline. Some diploma-based posts additionally require two years of relevant work experience. Required qualification/experience must be acquired by the application closing date.

Eligibility Alert: Check the exact organization/post row in the official notice. A Civil, Electrical or Mechanical diploma alone does not automatically make a candidate eligible for every department.

SSC JE Negative Marking 2026

Paper-I: 0.25 mark deducted for each wrong answer. Paper-II: 1 mark deducted for each wrong answer.

Minimum Qualifying Marks

UR: 30% | OBC/EWS: 25% | All other categories: 20%. Paper-I qualifying candidates are shortlisted category-wise for Paper-II.

SSC JE Syllabus 2026

  • General Intelligence & Reasoning: verbal/non-verbal reasoning, analogies, similarities, differences, visualization, problem solving, analysis, judgment, series and related topics.
  • General Awareness: current events, environment and everyday awareness including scientific aspects.
  • Technical: relevant subject selected according to educational qualification. Civil, Mechanical and Electrical questions are approximately Diploma level; CS/IT, Electronics & Telecommunication, Physics and Telecommunication are approximately graduation level.
Exam Note: Paper-I and Paper-II are objective MCQ examinations. SSC will provide a scientific calculator on the computer screen; physical calculators are not allowed.

BRO Physical & Medical Standards

Candidates opting for JE posts in Border Roads Organization (BRO) must satisfy the prescribed physical efficiency, physical and medical standards. The notification states that only male candidates are eligible for JE posts in BRO.
